It's been a busy year at FCMG, and after a jam-packed year of community events, we've been taking some time to reminisce on all of the exhibitions we hosted in 2022.

Beginning '22, we continued In the fibre of her being (curated by Sarah Rose) in our Stein Gallery up until February 26. The exhibition contemplated the role of women as anonymous carriers and preservers of heritage. With fibre as their artform, these artists spoke to their personal and collective histories, exploring legacies of womanhood, female subjectivity, diaspora, resilience and community.

Following this, we welcomed Niramsin's Fairiety Show from 12 March to 25 June. This exhibition invited audiences into the artist in residence's world of music and dance. Fairiety Show brought together Niramsin's work as a performer, choreographer and community worker - capturing the true spirit of Fairfield.

In our museum space, we continued Extra/Ordinary until April 9. The exhibition presented a creative response to FCMG's museum collection through art installations and prose. Artists and writes reflected on the stories told and left untold by our objects, photographs and records.

From here we introduced audiences to some of western Sydney's most exciting designers with Who Are You Wearing? which commenced on April 23 and closed on October 8. This museum exhibition provided a platform for ethical, sustainable and future forward western Sydney fashion designers to share their work.

The second half of the year welcomed new, exciting exhibitions in both our Stein Gallery and museum space.

Following Fairiety Show, guest curator Nicole Barakat presented re-member which was held in our Stein Gallery from July 9 to October 29. This exhibition gathered artists with ancestral threads stitched within the Southwest Asia and North Africa region. Eight artists shared their practises of ancestral 're-membrance' and embodied knowledge in a collection of commissioned artworks, inviting audiences to 're-member' alongside them.

After questioning who we wore, we moved onto celebrating the history of Fairfield's Shopkeepers. The exhibition opened on October 22, and we are looking forward to hosting it in our museum until April 15, 2023. Shopkeepers tells the stories of Fairfield's drapers and bakers, barbers and butchers. It outlines the changing retail landscape and developing commercial centres where general merchants make way for specialty stores and suburban shopping malls.

Finally, we welcomed Marikit Santiago's We Eat This Bread on November 12 and have the pleasure of hosting it in our Stein Gallery until April 1, 2023. The artist's exhibition features work inspired and influenced by her Filipino ethnicity and Australian culture. The title of the exhibition references the memorial acclamation in liturgical mass. Self-portraits and that of her family in this exhibition reflect the interweaving cultures of her ethnic and social identity, representing simultaneous, conflicting sensations of acceptance and rejection.

As you can see... we've had a busy year. We can't wait to introduce you to more exhibitions in 2023, you can find out more in our What's On booklet!
