2022 has welcomed many visitors through our exhibition spaces and vintage village – we held musical and pop-up art events, welcomed all the local ghouls and ghosts for trick or treating fun on Halloween and celebrated history!

Beginning our year, we held a dinner for International Women’s Day. #BreakTheBias Dinner with the Finishing School Collective was held on the 8th of March and welcomed womxn for an intimate long table dinner event – it featured live readings and performances curated by The Finishing School Collective.

Following this, we held Spinoff: a safe space for dangerous ideas on the 25th of March, an Extra/Ordinary pop-up event for young people. The event invited youth from Fairfield and western Sydney to indulge in an immersive night of art workshops, live music and drama performances by PYT.

On May 14th, we screened the documentary In search of a western Sydney sound and were treated to a live performance by Worlds Collide – a music collective made up of various artists and cultures. The documentary captured 10 years of original cross-cultural music projects. This event invited audiences to move their bodies and open their minds to the new sounds of western Sydney, and it’s fair to say we loved it!

After a three-month break, we welcomed back the community for our History Week event Hands on History on the 3rd of September. Despite the rain, our fantastic volunteers engaged visitors on an in-depth tour of our Vintage Village and immersed them in a historical experience. Guests were also treated to drop-in workshops, a community barbecue from the garden club and live music.

As October approached, we shivered in anticipation for our annual Spook-tacular Halloween event on the 31st! We hosted over 250 ghouls and ghosts who weren’t afraid to trick or treat. Our brave guests also indulged in spooky face painting, nail art and a Halloween disco!

Our last event of 2022 is the Uyghur Cultural Day on the 26th of November- the day will celebrate the ancient culture of the Uyghur people from East Turkestan in central Asia. The day will feature live music performance by Shohrat Tursun Trio, free noodle pulling demonstrations, traditional dancing, and workshops!

It’s been a jam-packed year – and we can’t wait for 2023!
